6 Tips for Snow Blowing

When using a snow blower, it may seem fairly simple and straightforward, but there are actually many do’s and don’ts when it comes to safe and efficient operation. 1. Check For Debris Before Staring

The last thing you want is for something like a newspaper or a piece of metal that’s buried in the snow to get caught up in the blades of the snow blower. This could cause serious damage to the snow blower’s auger and belt and potentially damage the snow blower completely beyond repair.

2. Start Before Snow Buildup Reaches 6 Inches

Don’t wait to start clearing off that driveway. Even while the snow is still falling, there are many advantages to snow blowing before the snow reaches up to six feet. Snow can be moved at farther distances and wear and tear on the snow blower will be reduced as the snow blower won’t need to work as hard.

3. Start Up The Snow Blower In A Safe Space

Ideally, snow blowers should not be turned on while indoors. The exhaust fumes from the machine contain carbon monoxide, which is extremely dangerous when they are trapped indoors. Choose an area that is well ventilated if there is no option to start the machine outside.

4. Always Use Fresh Gasoline

The most efficient way to get the machine up and running is to use fresh fuel. This is especially true when it comes to snow blowers with gas-powered engines, which are extremely difficult to start in cold weather. 

5. Know Where To Move The Snow

When operating the snow blower, there are plenty of obstacles that might get impacted by the blowing snow that should be avoided. Most notably, these obstacles include people, houses, vehicles, a neighbour’s driveway, and a street.

6. Never Leave The Snow Blower Unattended While It’s Still Running

If you absolutely must leave the snow blower for any reason, then always make sure to turn off the machine before you go. Not only will you needlessly lose more fuel, but the vapors from the machine are extremely dangerous if inhaled.
